Job Description:
A Cloud Engineer at Ellucian performs the delivery of contracted services and collaboratively engages in agile development to improve on processes and tools. This hands-on keyboard work is based on established Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) standards, architecture standards, methods of procedures and troubleshooting standards. Ellucian Cloud leverages the ITSM framework in executing our day-to-day work; including request fulfillment (or planned work), change management, incident management and problem management.
Where you will make an impact:
- Responsibility for delivery support and automation in such a way as to focus on contractual SLAs and internal SLOs; delivering high uptime for our customers
- Execute continuous service improvement activities, as assigned:
- Design, document, develop, test, and deploy automation
- Follow current DevOps best practices, and/or other development methodologies such as SDLC, Rapid, etc.
- Execute system health monitoring and performance optimization by:
- Collaborate across all Cloud support teams (Network, Platform, Database and Applications) on efforts to improve performance, stability, and availability
- Analyze changes in each database version release, hot fix, service pack, or business requirements
- Determine if changes require an updated to current documentation, processes, procedures and tools
- Contribute to knowledge management by updating documentation, processes, procedures and tools.
- Work with Cloud Talent Development to train colleagues on new documentation, processes, procedures and tools.
- Document and escalate application issues with detailed analyses to the Product Development teams.
- Possesses the tenacity to delve to the root of the issue quickly, understand why it happened, and prevent it in the future
- Proven experience collaborating with cross functional global and remote teams with diverse backgrounds
- Act as a mentor for Cloud Engineer colleagues by:
Providing adoption leadership expertise for new standards and best practices
Participating as a subject matter expert on process improvement; and training & tool development
Be the subject matter expert for assigned specializations by providing technical leadership and technical engineering expertise
What you will bring:
- A minimum of 0-2 years of experience as a software developer or operations engineer using languages such as Ruby, Python, Shell scripting, Powershell, and/or JAVA with at least 6monthsr setting up AWS environments for a SaaS company. Demonstrated Proficiency and knowledge of:
- Experience maintaining and deploying highly available, fault-tolerant systems at scale
- Expertise with cloud providers such as AWS or Azure
- Experience implementing CI/CD (e.g. Jenkins)
- A drive towards automating repetitive tasks (e.g. scripting via Ruby, Python, Shell scripting, PowerShell, and/or JAVA)
- Expertise with network engineering concepts (e.g. Firewalls, Load Balancers, CDN?s).
- Practical experience with container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, ECS.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (preferably Terraform)
- Experience with configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible, Packer)
- Experience packaging and deploying applications via containers
- Release Engineering tools such as Jenkins and Maven.
- Deep understanding of cloud technologies such as virtualization, storage and network domains in a cloud service model.
- Knowledge of Services Oriented Architectures, RESTful Interfaces & Enterprise Application Patterns
- Experience/Knowledge on webserver (http server, IIS etc..) and databases (Oracle, PostGre, SQLServer etc ..)
- Experience/Knowledge on application servers like tomcat, weblogic etc ..
- Strong understanding of command-line tools and distributed version control systems such as GIT, GitFlow, SVN, TFS.
- Proven experience with scrum development methodology
- Experience writing process requirements, technical design documents, and standard operating procedures.
- Strong verbal and written skills, excellent customer service, as well as high attention to detail
